Tailored learning support

Every child learns in their own way and at Bangor Public School we make sure their individual needs are supported.

At Bangor Public School, personalised learning and support begins in the classroom and champions relationships between the teacher, student and their family. Teachers also collaborate in stage teams to ensure programs and practices are highly differentiated, aligned to the NSW Curriculum and to ensure equity when making adjustments. Adjustments allow all students to access and participate in education on the same basis. Quality teaching and evidence based practices are evident throughout every classroom here at Bangor Public School.

Our Learning and Support Team (LST) comprises of the Principal, Deputy Principal, Learning and Support teacher (LaST) with Maple, our support dog and a school counsellor. The LST play a key role in ensuring that the specific needs of students with disability and additional learning and support needs are met. The LST also acts as a key coordination point for referrals and on going monitoring of outcomes for students following interventions.

We offer students:
  • student learning support officers (SLSO) in the classroom for identified students
  • teaching and learning adjustments
  • learning and support team meetings that include parents and health professionals
  • extension activities for students who need extra challenge
  • wellbeing and counselling support.

Student Growth

To ensure every student, every teacher, every leader improves every year, we address learning outcomes across the curriculum. Collaboratively, we develop and sustain whole school processes for collecting and analysing data. This drives the implementation of explicit teaching that incorporates differentiated, evidence based strategies that meet specific learning needs of all students across the full range of abilities.

Positive, Respectful Relationships

We strive to build and maintain relationships that enable students to feel supported. Student and parent voices are prioritised in school Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) meetings, where decisions are made in the best interest of all students. Regular rewards and acknowledgment of positive behaviours are evident throughout the school, ensuring students feel valued and connected. Student attendance is prioritised and monitored, with rewards for high and improved attendance, and collaborative, supportive interventions planned to support families as required.

A welcoming community

At Bangor Public School, we are proud of our supportive and engaged community, where families, staff and students work together to create the best learning environment possible. We value clear communication, collaboration, and strong partnerships that keep everyone connected and involved. This shared commitment helps make Bangor a special place for students to learn, grow and thrive.
